With great sadness, we learned of the sudden passing of Evert Wiskerke. A true draughts enthusiast, Evert was not only an important figure for draughts in Romania but also a cherished friend of our tournament, which he visited together with his family. His passion for the game was unmatched, driven by pure love for draughts rather than competition alone. A warm, extravert, and pleasant personality, he brought joy and energy to every event he attended. His presence will be deeply missed. Our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.

Jan "Tournament Tiger" Terpstra, a renowned figure in the world of draughts, has sadly passed away. Known for his relentless dedication and passion for the game, Terpstra's presence will be deeply missed within the draughts community and beyond. Born with an innate competitive spirit, Terpstra actively participated in 18 Salou Open tournaments. His love for the game was infectious, inspiring many others to take up draughts. RIP, Jan.

The main organizer of Salou open Peter Pippel passed away 27 October 2019.
